GamesMaster Philippines is the first gaming magazine published in the Philippines dedicated to PC and console gaming. It was the Philippine version of GamesMaster UK, and was published by Summit Media Publishing, Inc. The magazine is no longer in publication. It was the self-proclaimed number one video game magazine in the Philippines during its time.
While the magazine itself is localized and had Filipino contributors, some of the content published each month was borrowed from its UK counterpart.
GamesMaster Philippines ran for 34 issues before ending on its 3rd anniversary on September 2006.
GamesMaster Community
GamesMaster Philippines harbored an active forum. To promote activity, each issue of GM had a special section called "GM Forum" that lets the editors pick out and print the most interesting posts from the forum. A special prize will be given to the user who wrote the most interesting post, which is picked as the "Moderator's Choice".
Since the death of GM, the forum's name was changed to "Game Bayan". While a small number of posters remained active in the forum, the activity is nowhere near before when GM was still being published.
End of GM
The final issue of GamesMaster Philippines was on September 2006. It is the 34th issue and had a black front cover with the text "Game Over". The editor-in-chief Ed Geronio Jr. stated in that issue that "GM does not fit anymore in Summit's strategic expansion plan"1.
The Truth About GamesMaster
Alvin Jimenez, the former associate publisher of GamesMaster Philippines, has written his personal account of the magazine, from its initial launching in September 2003, to its final issue three years later.
